Well AoC is out, and this free roaming gnome is out and about exploring, so if any of you decide to give it a try give me a yell. :D

Catch you on the gnome side.

heya Bels. If you could, post your experiences and thoughts of the game. Could even PM me if you wish. I've been looking at this game and am interested in how it is.

Personally I thought it looked a bit lame. Graphic not as good as they planned it, gameplay .. hmmm. Friend was a necromancer ish dude at lvl 17 or so, but it looked boring as hell. Might get better later on though, what do I know? I'd rather play WoW; nuff said :p (really)

just my opinion though;

I think its pretty good myself. As far as lame graphics id say that pretty much depends on the specs of your hardware, my good old comp doesnt even meet min requirements and its pretty good here.

As far as gameplay goes I really like it, no auto attack, which makes it a bit more engaging to play melee. Its got a more dark and grim feel to it than most other mmorpgs I have played.

Only really bad thing I have to say about it so far is that there arent any gnomes there

Why is it that rangers can use their equivalent spell indoors and druids cant?

Actually the graphic and environmental effects in AoC kick any other MMO's ass out there at the moment. Even LOTRO that used be nice is already behind. That being said it is true that the graphic isn't as good as first planned. The reason for this is that the DX10 patch is not included in the game due to some technical issues they are working with microsoft to fix. DX10 is to be expected in a patch in August.

Besides that the launch have been smooth, of course there are bugs and minor annoyances with the UI. But Funcom seem to be working on them, I'd say it will be a lot more stable and bug free within the next 6 months, no MMO is perfect from start.

So how is it to play?
All I can say is that I'm having a blast. I like the new fighting system that force you to be awake to do optimal damage or block incomming strikes. The fighting system is based on directional blows to your enemy, left, front or right. There are indicators on the mob how they are blocking your blows and some mobs are smarter than other and change their shielding direction quickly.

As a melee you also get combos, which means when you execute the combo you will have to use the directional keys to make the combo, kinda like with a hand controller in a fighting game where you move up, down, right, left to do a combo.

What about spell casters?
They don't have combos in the sense of a melee. However when they reach, I think, level 50 they get something called spellweaving. That means that you can enter a trance state that start to consume, HP, Mana and stamina during the trance, the longer you stay the bigger the effect will be. But one misstake and it will kill you. The effect is a buff that make you crit 100% and/or do 200% damage for a short while etc (since I havn't got this far my information regarding it is lacking).

The quests are fun and there are some bosses that are a little challenging. But really it's to early to tell what the game will be like when reaching raid dungeons. They really need to fix group UI and such stuff so it's easy to locate each other.

The game is zone based just like EQ, rather quick loading times though. Most of the zone's have a normal and a epic mode for the encounters. And if a zone get to crowded new instances of the zone will spawn, you can easily switch between the different instances to team up with your group. Well that was some short info, I'm playing on Bori and my name is Koras.

Yeah the UI is bit fubar, but you cant always get everything at the start. Theres no ingame voice chat either, not that it really matters since most people not living in a cave somewhere either use vent or ts

*Que cheesy/dramatic 80's tv theme*
On a server far far away, a poor gnome has been transported through a time/race/space/donut continuum. Horrible transformation has wracked his formerly gnometastic body, he now finds himself in the form of an empty husk... he is human. Bravely he walks the world of Ymir, searching for cookies, smokes and gnomes... oooh and sodas, sodas good, and maybe some beer too... ooooh and a wait to return to his previously gnometastic body !
*Que even more dramatic music and a clip of gnometastic proportions*

Well if any of you pop by Ymir give a yell, oooh and an other important ting Koras didnt mention. There is no profanity filter there yaar !

All the danes are playing in a Danish guild on the fury server. Taluvan, Doglas and I are making the world unsafe there. And btw... .Necroes realy are weak and use more time hiding than fighting because we die in like 2 hits...

You forgot another thing, there is nudity too!

PS
A tip, use MirageUI for AoC. It improves the basic UI quite a bit, not to mention a group window you actually can read. http://aoc.curse.com/
